Day 19: A Day of Mountain Splendor: The Hermitage Point, Swan Lake and Heron Lake

We woke to chilly but beautiful weather. We planned on a hike today that was billed as about 8.8 miles and ended up being over 11 miles!  But, it was worth it!  Colter Bay, where we are staying, is a bay of Jackson Lake. There is a peninsula that juts out from the Bay that contains two lakes, Swan Lake and Heron Lake. The end of the peninsula is called Hermitage Point.

The views began with Mt. Moran, a peak of over 14,000. As we continued, we saw amazing lake views, and yes, some swans and herons respectfully. We also saw a balk eagle. The vistas were breathtaking and exactly what you would expect in a mountain setting!

Swan Lake again....look at those lily pads!

This is Jackson Lake with Mt. Moran, the highest peak.

To the left on this range are the Grand Tetons of the Teton Range.

We think this middle peak is 'Grand Teton'

This is Heron Lake; filled with lily pads.

At Hermitage Point for lunch!

And even though there are signs everywhere, we didn't see a bear. But just in case, I now carry bear spray and have had the Rick Glad tutorial on how to use it!  We had a wonder-filled day!
