Day 18: To Grand Teton National Park

Image
We are now moving back into the RV full-time. We are both really happy about that. It turns out there is a lot of hassle when you move back and forth from hotel to RV and next time we will just stay put in the RV. It must be like when you travel on a river cruise and the boat moves all your belongings to the next site! So much easier than packing and unpacking every stop.  It was our only second day of rain so far on this trip, so we were thrilled we'd only planned to get to our new spot. We drove and shopped and got set up and then went off in search of wifi access. It turns out that inside National Parks, WIFI is not easily assessable. duh, but frustrating nonetheless!  But if you are reading this you know we are successful!   Stay tuned for Grand Teton Adventures!

Day 17: Gazer Day!

Image
Remember a few days ago when I mentioned the Geyser Gazers, and I thought Rick and I would never have to worry about becoming like them..... well, yesterday we Gazed at Geysers all day long! We started with Old Faithful. We arrived just after it erupted (of course) so we hung around and waited.  There were a few false starts....... We were not alone..... And then it happened!  After the excitement was over, we walked all through the Lower Geyser Basin and saw more and more crazy-looking and crazy-acting geysers. Here are our favorites. And yes, we now have favorites!   We stayed the night at the Old Faithful Inn. Only one wing was open bc of Covid. All the food in all the parks have been carry-out only, and usually only from one location. Everyone seems to be complying with the mask mandate whenever they are around people. That includes hiking. You can see how Rick and I usually look above!  We didn't get to see the historic lobby of the Inn (closed bc of Covid) but ...

Day 16: Road Closed!!!!! And look what we saw!

We started today wanting to go to Lake Yellowstone. We originally were supposed to be staying in the Lake Yellowstone Hotel last night and tonight, but bc of Covid it was closed. So we thought we would go check it out. We were about halfway there, on the 16 mile drive and the road was CLOSED from the oil tanker that spilled three days ago. ugh. So we  drove the long way around..... 80 miles, so 160 round trip! ugh again!  BUT we had some good scenery:  But we did have big wildlife sighting: a bull elk!  A BIG 6 x6 according to Rick!  (That is hunter talk for 'a BIG RACK!) and the Lake WAS beautiful!  Tomorrow we are off to Old Faithful Lodge to see the main attraction!
