Day 4: Hiking to Avalanche Lake
Ahhhh, this is why we came! What amazing views, terrain, and new friends! A trifecta for sure! We hired Glacier Guides to lead us on several hikes this week and we weren't disappointed in this, our first one....But first, we woke to rain pattering on our roof and a sunrise that was pretty amazing.
Then we packed our packs and rode the moped to the Glacier Guides office! BTW, it was on a HIGHWAY and I may or may not have been very nervous! 😩 But we made it in one piece. Thank you Rick Glad for not killing me!
We met our guide, 'Tall Joe" who could not have been better. Full of knowledge and delightful.
The hike was about 6 miles round trip and beautiful. A great hike to get started!
The terrain was varied as you will see below.

And then we arrived at Avalanche Lake!
And now a word about our hiking group!
It was Rick and I
The aforementioned "Tall Joe" who was euphoric over his wild black raspberry discovery
And this gang of three, who were from Atlanta (Jennifer), NYC (Min and Katherine).
None of us were acquainted before our hike and ended as fast friends. These are the things we learned from each other:
1.Firebrand Pass is NOT a good first-ever hiking experience. 2.If you fall asleep in a pull-off space on a national park road you are 'camping' and you cannot do that. However, if you are stargazing and not sleeping it is ok 🤷♀️3. Darn Tough socks are the best hiking socks. 4. Dogs are not allowed on any trail (bears like them too much) 5. Apparently through the use of hashtags and knowledge (!) I could become a #boomerinfluencer on social media and 5. There are some pretty awesome solo travelers out there!

We are thinking that these pictures were staged in a Russian Studio ( same one where they did the fake moon landing)
ReplyDeleteThe photographer is very good! Aren't vacation friends fun!?
